Scripture:
Matthew 25: 21-30
Main Verse:
Matthew 25: 21
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'"
Observation:
The three servants in the parable of the bags of gold had to give their master a report about what they did with their gold. The two servants were praised for their hard work and wisdom. Their gold increased to twofold the original given to them by their master. So the master promoted them and put them in charge of many things. They gained their master's trust so they were given greater responsibilities. The last servant however, was considered worthless. He did nothing to increase his bag of gold. He wasted his master's time and resources. He was cursed and thrown "into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Application:
How many times have we wasted those opportunities that the Lord has given us? Sometimes, the Holy Spirit is urging us to share the Gospel to someone but we failed to do it because of fear. Sometimes, we have the chance to be used in the ministry, but we'd rather not share our time, talent, or treasure. Or perhaps sometimes, the Lord is speaking to us to help someone in need, but we stubbornly refuse because of our "me-first" mentality. If we are true followers of Jesus, we won't waste these opportunities that the Lord gives to us. We need to show to the Lord that we are worthy servants, that we are dependable, that we are not afraid of failures and taking risks. And you'll see in the end, when our Master returns, He will reward you and say "Well done, my good and faithful servant!"
Prayer:
My Lord, I am sorry for all those opportunities that I've missed because I was afraid, lazy, and stubborn. Forgive me for my weaknesses. Thank you for encouraging me with your Word. Indeed, upon your return, my heart desires to hear your voice saying that I have been a worthy servant and I am deserving of a place in your house in Heaven. AMEN.
