Daily Devotion: The Gift of Prayer

Scripture:
John 17

Main Verse:
John 17:9
"I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours."

Observation:
Jesus gave us not only a pattern to follow when we pray (Matthew 6:9-13); He also prayed a powerful prayer of intercession for all of us in John 17. Jesus prayed to the Father so that He may be glorified, so that His disciples may be protected, and so that believers may be united. It is truly amazing how the Lord claims those who believe in Him as His own. It is wonderful to know that He has personally asked the Father to protect us from the evil one. It is wonderful to know that we have Jesus interceding for us.

Application:
No one else on earth can equal the kind of prayer that the Lord Jesus has prayed. It is His gift for all those who believe in Him. And because we have Jesus interceding for us, we can be assured that He will be with us all the time. That's the power of prayer! And Jesus showed us that when He prayed for us, He was totally depending on and trusting in the Father. We need to pray like Jesus. Pray in total surrender. Pray in the name of Jesus.

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for reminding me again and again that I can totally depend on your name in prayer. Please forgive me for my shortcomings, for being foolish, and for sometimes forgetting and taking for granted the grace you have bestowed upon me. May I continue to enjoy your graciousness, mercy, and love in my life. All of these I ask in your Most Holy Name. AMEN.
