Scripture:
Joshua 24: 15
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
Observation:
Joshua made a decision to serve the Lord until the day he died. But he did not serve the Lord alone. He served God together with his family, and he made a public declaration that he and his household have decided to serve the Lord. He believed with conviction in his heart that only the Lord deserved to be worshipped and served because he has been witness to God's faithfulness in his life and on Israel.
Application:
We should always remember the goodness and graciousness of the Lord in our lives. It is the only way we can show that we are thankful to the Lord. But remembering is not enough. Simply saying "thank you" to the Lord is not enough. We need to make a decision to serve the Lord and only the Lord in our lives. We need to commit our lives to the Lord. We need to fear the Lord so we can serve Him faithfully. And if you have witnessed the Lord's faithfulness in your life, then you should dedicate your entire household to serving the Lord so that they may also experience firsthand the Lord's lovingkindness.
Prayer:
Father, your faithfulness in my life is more than enough reason for me to serve you. Thank you for your generous heart and for loving me despite my imperfections. I want to dedicate my entire household to you. Let us serve you, oh Lord, and let us do it with all sincerity so that you may feel our genuine love for you. I pray all of these in the Mighty Name of Your Son Jesus. AMEN.
