Daily Devotion: The Solid Foundation

Scripture:
Luke 6: 46-49

Main Verses:
Luke 6: 47-48
As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.

Observation:
The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area in the Pacific Ocean where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur frequently. When you live in a place frequented by killer earthquakes, you want to make sure your house can withstand the violent shaking and vibrations caused by the ground's movement because you feel safe and secure. The same can be said about our relationship with the Lord Jesus. When we build our life on the Lord and on His Word, we have a solid foundation. When our life, marriage, family, work, ministry, and business is founded on the Rock which is Jesus, we are standing on solid foundation. But when we rely on ourselves, religion, money, people, and man-made teachings, we are building our lives on a shaky foundation.

Application:
To make sure you have a solid foundation, you need to focus on even the tiniest details. Your house sits on top of your foundation, so if you make small mistakes here and there, it won't be easy to change anything once you have made the wrong choices. It's the same with having Jesus as our foundation. If we want a strong, safe, and secure life with the Lord, we need to give the Lord some time--time to hear His Word, to meditate, and to pray. When we know more about God's will in our lives, we will understand His sovereign plan for us. But knowing God's will is not enough. We need to do and follow His will. When Jesus said that not everyone will enter the kingdom of heaven, he wanted us to understand that only those who do the will of the Father will be given the privilege to enter His glorious kingdom.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for giving me the wisdom to understand your Word today. Thank you for pastors and teachers who preach your Word, and for the opportunity to listen clearly to their message. Thank you that Jesus is the Solid Foundation! May I follow your will at all times, Father, and may your Word manifest in my life so that others may see your glory in me. All these I pray in Jesus's name. AMEN.
