Scripture:
2 Corinthians 4: 1-6
Main Verse:
2 Corinthians 4: 6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Observation:
There is one teenager who is partially sighted in a church where I attend in Palawan. I heard from my mom that he was one of the students of the church's vacation Bible school, and ever since that day, he has been consistently attending church. He is such an inspiration. His parents cannot afford to buy him a pair of eyeglasses, so he uses a magnifying glass to read. And mind you, he can recite Bible verses despite his disability! I am not very good at memorizing things, but this boy is extraordinary. I can only imagine what more he can do if he has perfect eyesight, or he has a pair of eyeglasses to help him read. He dreams of becoming a teacher AND a pastor in the future.
What the Lord has done to this boy is just amazing. The Lord has let his light shine upon him so he can see God's divine glory, despite being physically blind. In verse 4 of 1 Corinthians 4, Paul says "the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." But our loving and merciful God said "Let light shine out of darkness," so we can see the light of the knowledge of God's glory through Jesus Christ.
Application:
We are blessed because the Bible is available to all of us and has been translated in several languages. The sad reality, however, is that not all who profess they are Christians actually take the time to read and study it. If we truly want to know about God, we can find Him through His Word. He reveals Himself in all of creation and through the Bible, and He has let his glory shine through his Son. We are spiritually blind, as the Apostle Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians 4: 4, but we need to ask God to reveal Himself to us through the Light of the Gospel, through His Son Jesus Christ. And the more we yearn to know about the Lord, the more He will make Himself known to us.
Prayer:
Father, thank you for your miracle. Thank you for opening my eyes so I can see you through your Word. Thank you for revealing yourself to me through your Son Jesus. Lord, my desire is to know you more. I pray that I may understand your revelations to me when I read your Word. Give me spiritual eyes at all times so I can see your glory. AMEN.
