Daily Devotion: Living Good Lives

Scripture:
1 Peter 2: 11-17

Main Verse:
1 Peter: 2: 12
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Observation:
The author of 1 Peter lists the things that we should so as believers living in this world. We need to submit to human authority and honor them (v. 13 & 17). We should live good lives (v. 12). We are free, but we should live as good Christians following God's commands (v. 16). We need to respect everyone, and love everyone that loves the Lord (v. 17). Most of all, we need to fear God (v. 17). These commands were given because we are living here on earth and we need to set a good example to those who do not know the Lord yet.

Application:
The best way for others to see how God works in our lives is for them to see the way we live our lives. Do we really love and fear God? Then, it should manifest in the way we treat others. Do we follow those who have authority over us? Do we obey the laws and commands of our country? Do we respect them? Do we do good things to others, both Christian and non-Christian, or do we avoid them or gossip about them? Even if we are accused of doing wrong, if we know in our hearts that we have not done anything wrong, the time will come that people will see the good that we have done for them. We must remember the reason we are living good lives is because we want others to witness God's goodness in our lives. Eventually, they will also glorify the God that we serve because we have set a good example.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for showing me how I can continue to grow in my walk with you. Let my life be a living example and proof that you are walking with me and that you continue to work in me so I can change and become better every single day. Mold me into Christ's likeness so that others may see your goodness. May I continue to glorify you in my life. AMEN.
