Scripture:
2 Corinthians 10: 1-6
Main Verse
2 Corinthians 10: 5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Observation:
A major league baseball player, Leon Brown once said " It all begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it." The apostle Paul reminds us that we should "take every thought captive." Anything that is not of God and for God must be "demolished." If we do not guard our minds, we will easily believe whatever we hear from someone and we might just prejudge someone without making any investigations first. However, Paul reminds us that we should train our minds so that we will only think Godly and holy thoughts.
Application:
We live in a generation where information is readily accessible from mass media to the Internet to social media. And because of the proliferation of information everywhere, it is so easy for us to be swayed by what we see and hear. However, we need to be able to discern whether the information that is presented to us is reasonable and truthful. Therefore, to develop a captive mind, we need to focus on biblical and praiseworthy thoughts. Philippians 4:8 tells us that we need to direct our minds to "whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable." Such is the way toward a disciplined mind.
Prayer:
Father, teach me to have a trained mind, a mind that stays focused on you, a mind that thinks about biblical thoughts only. Truly your way is the only way towards living a holy life. My heart's desire is to follow that path all the days of my life. AMEN.
