Daily Devotion: Rooted in Christ

Scripture:
Colossians 2: 6-15

Main Verses:
Colossians 2: 6-7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Observation:
A Christ-centered life is a life that focuses on Christ. Paul mentioned in v. 6 that we must continue to live our lives in Christ, which means we must live a life where Christ is in the center of our lives and that we constantly remind ourselves that Christ died for our sins and that we have received salvation because of God's grace and mercy.

Paul encourages us to build up our faith and be rooted in him. When we want to grow a tree, we start by planting a seed. We water it, expose it to the sun, and provide vital nutrients that it needs in order to survive. We can only be sure that the seed can stand on its own when it has developed a good root system. The seedling has developed a stronger foundation and would be more resistant to pests and diseases.

Application:
Our faith in Christ can be likened to that of planting a tree. When the seed, the Word of God, is planted into our hearts, we need to nurture it so we can grow. We need to constantly read God's Word so that we know what  to do when we are faced with temptations, trials, and tribulations. We need to always be in Christ and increase our love in Him. We should always remember Christ's sacrifice on the cross so that our faith may be strengthened. Finally, we should have a grateful heart at all times. We should be thankful not only when we receive material blessings. In fact, everyday is a day to thank the Lord for the great love and compassion that we constantly experience from the Lord.

Prayer:
Lord, I want to thank you for your graciousness, your love, and your faithfulness in my life. I want to walk with you everyday, so that my faith may be strengthened. Teach me through your Word how I can develop a strong spirit in order to survive the troubles of this world. May I grow not just baby roots, but deep roots that may never be affected by the storms of life. AMEN.
