Scripture:
Judges 4 & 5
Main Verse:
Judges 5: 3
"Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I, even I, will sing to the Lord; I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel, in song.
Observation:
Deborah was one of the women in the Bible who showed that she is a Godly woman. She was an honorable judge who led others and were followed by others. She followed God's instructions and obeyed the Lord instead of insisting her will. She ordered Barak, her defense secretary, to assemble an army because it is the Lord who has commanded him. Deborah did not take credit for their triumph but acknowledged the Lord's leading towards victory against the Caananites.
Application:
How often have we taken credit for something that we never really accomplished? When someone has worked on a project so hard, do you take the recognition without acknowledging and thanking the person who has given his entire time and effort into making the project work? In Judges 4 and 5, I learn about Deborah and how she did not take credit for the victory of Israel against the Caananites. Instead, she praised the Lord and recognized the Lord's leading. When something has worked towards our favor, do we thank and praise the Lord, just like what Deborah did? Do we sing praises to the Lord who has made possible our victory? Let us not forget to honor the Lord at all times, and let others know that it is the Lord in control.
Prayer:
I will sing praises to you, Oh Lord, for all the things that you have let me accomplish. I would have never done any of these things without your help. I pray that may I have a thankful heart at all times, so that others may see that it is You who continues to lead me towards a victorious life. AMEN.
