Scripture:
Jeremiah 12: 1-2, Malachi 2
Main Verse:
Jeremiah 12: 2
You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts.
Observation:
The people during Malachi's time were complaining to the Lord, "Why do you let the wicked prosper?" So the Lord had grown tired of their complaints. They believed that the Lord has allowed the wicked to live in abundance and success, but they have forgotten the Lord's words, that the wicked will all be consumed in the end. The Lord was offended with their question because they have been living sinful lives, yet here they are, asking the Lord to bless them. They see others sins yet they do not see their own irresponsible actions. During Jeremiah's time, he also questioned the Lord, but the difference is that Jeremiah lived a live that pleases the Lord. The Lord will never let the wicked prosper for a long time. He says that at His appointed time, "all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off" (Psalm 37: 38).
Application:
The Lord hates it when we live superficial lives. We may be able to hide this from other people, but never from the Lord. People may be able to hear us talk about the Lord many times, teach and proclaim about Him, post Bible verses in social media, but are we really close to God's heart? We are living a hypocritical life when we proclaim with our mouth that He is Lord and do good works in the Lord's name but do not really have that desire for a deep connection with the Lord. Therefore, let us always examine our hearts and live our lives in all sincerity for the Lord. Only God can truly judge if we deserve to be cursed or be blessed.
Prayer:
Father, I admit that I have my shortcomings and I am in no way perfect. That is why I ask for your forgiveness if I have offended you with my words or my works. May I be truly worthy to proclaim to others that you are my King and Lord. Search my heart constantly, oh Lord, and know that I want to sincerely glorify you in my life. AMEN.
