Daily Devotion: A Jealous God

Scripture:
Deuteronomy 6

Main Verses:
Deuteronomy 6: 13-15
Fear the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.

Observation:
When our spouse or our other half does not give us the love and attention that we deserve, what do we feel? Isn't it that we usually feel hurt and taken for granted? If our loved ones feel that way,  how much more our God?

The Lord our God is a jealous God. He does not want us to have other gods, and He wants us to give Him our 100% undivided attention. He wants us to fear Him, not in a way that we are scared of Him, but in such a way that we follow his commands because of our great love and reverence for Him.

Application:
If we already know that our Lord is a jealous God, then we know what hurts Him the most and we avoid doing what He does not like the most. The Lord can see our hearts. He knows if we truly love Him. He knows if we truly delight in His presence. He knows if we truly like to obey His commands. Nothing is hidden from Him (Hebrews 4:13). The Lord's promise to those who truly love and obey the Lord is good life and an enlarged territory (Deuteronomy 6:18) but the Lord promises to destroy the wicked and those who do not obey His commands. What would you rather choose?

Prayer:
Lord, I desire to seek your presence. Search my heart and know that my innermost being wants to be with you always. Let me feel your loving presence everyday as I commune with you in prayer and through my quiet times with you, in Jesus's name I pray. AMEN.
