Scripture:
John 4: 1-42
Main Verse:
John 4: 34
"My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
Observation:
Today's Sunday preaching/lesson was both a revelation and a challenge. In John 4, Jesus tried to win the soul of the Samaritan woman, and He showed us how He did it. He did not merely start by asking the woman if she thinks she will go to heaven or not. In fact, Jesus first tried to befriend her, therefore, He was able to capture her interest. And when the disciples urged Him to eat, Jesus responded that His food is "to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work" (v. 34). Jesus was showing us that it is not enough that we know the will of the Lord; we need to do what His will is, and part of that is to reach out to the lost.
Application:
The Lord reveals His will and purpose to us in various ways, and one of those ways is through listening to the Sunday preaching. I admit that there are times when I fail to do the Lord's will of sharing the Gospel to people that I meet or even to those that I know. It is in this part that I fervently hope the Lord will continue to give me opportunities to reach out to more people, to be able to sow seeds of God's Word in their hearts. It is my desire to encourage my family, friends, and others through sharing what the Lord reveals to me.
A part of today's preaching showed me what I should do to reach out to my family and friends for Christ:
"We should LOOK AROUND. Where do we start sharing the Word? Our mission field is our place of work, our school, our home, and places where the Lord brings our feet. LOOK UP and pray for people in our life who do not know Jesus. LOOK OUT for ways to develop friendships with these people, and in so doing, we may be able to establish a relationship with them. LOOK FORWARD to inviting them to church. Finally, LOOK AFTER the people who responded positively to Christ or to the Word."
Winning souls is a personal thing for the Lord, so it should also be a personal thing for us.
Prayer:
Thank you, Jesus, for revealing your Word today. Lord, give me a caring heart, a heart that desires to reach out for the lost ones, including my husband, my family, and friends who do not have a personal relationship with you yet. May I be able to sow seeds of the Word to the people that I meet everyday and may these people have a ready and open heart. May I truly do your will, Lord, and may I genuinely show to others that you are the only God who is worthy to be served, eternal King, Lord and Savior of all! AMEN.
