Daily Devotion: Be With You

Scripture:
Deuteronomy 31: 1-8

Main Verse:
Deuteronomy 31: 8
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Observation:
It is so amazing to know that we have a God who will never leave us nor forsake us. When Moses spoke to the Israelites and to Joshua, he told them not only once, but twice, that the Lord will go with them when they conquer the nations. The Lord wanted to reassure them that He will be with them.

There are many Bible verses that show the Lord is always with His people, despite the many times that they have deserted Him.

Joshua 1: 5, 9 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. (9) Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Isaiah 41: 10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 43: 2-3 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Jesus also gave the same assurance to His disciples when He resurrected: "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) This is how the Lord takes care of His people. Our God is such a loving God!

Application:
I love the song "Be With You" (Selalu Menyembahmu) by Sendy Stepvina. It is my personal prayer, and it befittingly describes what my heart longs to do, which is to be with the Lord. He is my peace, the Only One who brings me comfort when I feel downhearted.

Do you know why we long for the Lord's presence? Do you know why we feel drawn to the Lord? It is because the Lord longs to be with us. We don't just personally feel that way toward the Lord. Those problems, trials, and sufferings force us to depend on the Lord and long to be with Him. If our lives were problem-free, we would not have any reason to cry out to the Lord for help. So when you feel that the entire universe has fallen unto you, remember that we have a God who we can trust. He longs to be with you.

Prayer:
Lord, in my darkest moments, you are my peace and my comfort. I thank you for giving me the assurance that I can trust in you no matter the difficulties that come my way. I can never thank you enough for your faithfulness in my life. Indeed, nothing can stand between us, my Lord! I give all to you my Lord because I want to be with you. And as I wait for your glorious return, I will worship you all the days of my life. All honor, and glory, and power belong to your Holy Name alone. AMEN.
