Scripture:
John 15:
Main Verse:
John 15:16
"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you."
Observation:
What powerful truth it is to know that Jesus chose and appointed us so that we may go and bear fruit! Wow! The fact that He has chosen us just shows that He wants to give us a new life, to resurrect us, reform us, and give us the privilege to be a child of God. But more than that, He chose and appointed us for a reason and purpose, and that is to bear fruit. Jesus wants us to live significant lives, and we can only do that if our lives are tied to Him. A significant life is one that bears fruit. If we bear fruit, we show it by an act of love. If we love others, we will show mercy and compassion, especially for the lost ones. Jesus reminds us in John 15: 9, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love."
Application:
God will always ask you to do something way bigger than yourself. Jesus has chosen us to do His work here on earth, and we can't do any of that if we simply rely on our capacity. Our destiny here on earth is to fulfill that which He has stamped in our life, and that is to bear much fruit. How can we bear fruit? Jesus repeatedly mentions from verses 1-16 that we should abide in Him. We must cling to The Vine. We must keep ourselves attached to Jesus. If Jesus has chosen us to bear fruit, then we must also choose to trust and commit our lives to Him. When we choose to respond to the Lord's calling, He can start the work of recreating us into the person that God has always wanted us to be.
Prayer:
My Lord, knowing that You have chosen me to bear fruit gives me much joy. Thank you, Jesus. Help me abide in your commandments, help me to be more loving to others, so you can perform Your will in my life. Give me a heart like Yours, a heart that loves to love others. In your Holy Name I pray. AMEN.
