Daily Devotion: Called to Serve

Scripture:
Ephesians 4: 1-16

Main Verses:
Ephesians 4: 11-13
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Observation:
One thing that Paul kept on reminding believers and followers of Christ is that we were all saved by grace. But our conversion into Christianity does not end in just receiving salvation. Because as disciples, we are called to serve the Lord and continue His work here on earth. After receiving the gift of salvation, Paul enumerated some of the gifts that believers received after Jesus ascended to heaven in verse 11. Jesus knew that in order for believers to continue the work that He left on earth, each one should receive gifts that would equip them for the work of service  (vv. 11-12). That is why there are some called to be pastors, some teachers,  some evangelists, and some prophets. Each member is given a unique gift that can be used in serving the Lord.

Application:
As a believer, have you found out what your gift is? Have you prayed to the Lord to help you discover what talent you can offer to the Lord so you can continue His work on earth? We have an important work to do as members of God's church. We were called not only to receive God's gift of grace; we were called so that we can share this gift of grace to others. Remember, we were all once sinners destined to die a spiritual death, but Christ has given us his gift of salvation. We need to share this truth to others who still do not know the Lord, to those who need the Lord.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for giving me the gift of salvation and for giving me an opportunity to share your revelation to others. I was unworthy in your sight , but you showed your great love to me and mercy. I am filled with your love. Help me so I can share this gift of salvation to others. Help me so that others may get to know how amazing and wonderful and faithful you are. AMEN.
