Daily Devotion: The Choice Is Ours

Scripture:
Psalm 1

Main Verse:
Psalm 1: 1-2
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

Observation:
In Psalm 1, the psalmist contrasts the wicked from the righteous. The wicked does whatever their heart delights in doing instead of choosing the way of the Lord. From the time of Adam and Eve, man has chosen to do what their own will dictates them to do. But choosing this direction, choosing to follow the desires of their heart and flesh always leads to misery. That is why the person who chooses to cheerfully follow the Lord's ways is blessed. The person who chooses to take the path of the Lord is wise because he knows that a life apart from the Lord is miserable.

Application:
God wants only the best for us. He wants us to experience a life of joy and blessedness, and He has given us free will to decide which way of life to follow. We can choose to follow the path that leads to blessedness and fruitfulness, or we can choose to walk toward a cursed and unhappy life. The choice is ours, and God will not impose His will upon us. He wants us to follow Him not because we are forced to, but because we are forever grateful for all the kindness and graciousness He has shown unto us.

Prayer:
Father, lead me toward the righteous path. I want to experience your blessing and joy that overflows from within. Thank you for showing me the way that leads to a sinless life. Thank you for revealing to me your Word. Thank you for your Word that encourages and strengthens! All glory and honor belong only to your Mighty Name! AMEN.
