Romans 3: 9-20
Main Verse:
Romans 3: 10
As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one."
Observation:
What does it mean to be righteous? Don't we usually say to someone, "you are good" or "you have such a good heart" whenever the person has done us a favor? Then why did Paul state that there is no one righteous? Was Paul just being negative when he kept saying that no one is righteous, or was he telling the truth? Let's try to recall a moment in our life when we did not sin. Can you remember a day when you did not lie, or think badly of someone? Was there ever a time you did not wrestle with sin? I believe that we cannot escape sin. Paul was just beith truthful in saying that we are all unrighteous because it is the only way for us to understand what sin did, has done, and will do to our lives.
Application:
We need to acknowledge that we are sinners, and that we cannot escape sin or be righteous through our own works. We cannot follow all the commandments. It is just impossible. We need to be honest with ourselves so we can realize that we need Jesus to save us from unrighteousness. We need to look deep down our hearts to see our unworthy state. We need to admit that we have a damaged relationship with God, and that the only way to become righteous is through the blood of Jesus. The Lord Jesus presented himself as a sacrifice to demonstrate his righteousness and to justify those who have faith in Him. We need to accept Him into our lives so we may receive His grace and be redeemed.
Prayer:
My Lord Jesus, I was a sinner, but through your sacrifice, I have been redeemed and justified. Thank you for making me realize that I need to be saved. Thank you for your graciousness and for your great love. Thank you for the blood that you shed on the cross for me. Thank you for always staying with me. May I live my life always worthy of your sacrifice. Help others especially my loved ones to realize that they need you in their life as their Lord and Savior. This I pray in your Mighty Name. AMEN.
