Daily Devotion: The Holder of Our Destiny

Scripture:
Genesis 45: 1-8

Main Verse:
Genesis 45: 8
"So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt."

Observation:
Being the Pharaoh's second in command was probably something that Joseph never imagined would have happened to him. Perhaps, while in prison, he remembered his dreams and even wondered what the future holds for him. But he believed in his heart that God had something great in store for him. He believed that God's timing is always the perfect time. He still trusted the Lord. He did not let bitterness take control of his life. He let God control his destiny! After he revealed himself to his brothers, he told them that they did not send him to Egypt, but it was the Lord our Father who sent him because God had already determined beforehand, even before his brothers sold him as a slave, that he will save his family and Israel from the famine.

Application:
When we let the Lord take control of our destiny, great things are bound to happen in our lives. There may be deterrents before God fulfills what we He has destined for us. There may be delays, and you probably might have to wait 3, 5, 10 years or more before your destiny happens. But God's timing is always perfect! So while waiting for that long over-due promotion, for God's best for you, or for that ministry you have been praying for a very long time, keep trusting God and remain totally dependent on Him. Turn to the Lord and let him take control. Finally, thank the Lord for his abundant grace. In all humility, acknowledge that God is the source of everything that we have. Pride will never enter our hearts if we acknowledge that God is the Holder of our destiny!

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for all the things that are happening in my life. You alone hold my destiny, and I believe that you have a wonderful plan in store for me. Indeed,  you cause all things to work together for good to those who love You, to those whom You called according to your purpose. I surrender my life and put you in charge of everything, for everything you do is for my own good. I want to praise you, oh Lord, for your goodness, for your faithfulness, and for your graciousness. May I continue to bless your name until the day of your return, in Jesus's name I pray. AMEN.
