Scripture:
Matthew 4:4, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Main Verse:
Hebrews 4: 12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Observation:
We nourish our bodies with food every day. We eat three or more times a day, not to mention the light snacks all throughout the day and the midnight snacks! We need food to survive. It gives us energy so we can do our daily activities. But the quality of food we eat could either make or break us. If we constantly eat junk food, we won't get the right nourishment our body needs and we will be prone to diseases and infection. If we eat a balanced diet, our body will get the vital nutrients it needs to grow healthy.
Our spirit also needs to be fed. "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4) But oftentimes, we neglect this important task of caring for our spirit. If you're a Christian like me, notice that when you miss your devotion, quiet times, and journaling, you start to feel weak. Your spirit starts to become "malnourished."
Application:
The Lord uses His word to transform us. The Bible is not merely a source of information. As Christians, we do not just entrust the feeding our of spirit to the pastor who will deliver the sermon every Sunday. It is our food, our source of strength. In addition, we should also think about the quality of time we spend reading and meditating on the Word of God. If we are reading the Bible just to get some information, then we are not truly getting the nourishment that our spirit needs. The Word of God is living and active. When we read it and we let the Word convict us, that's when transformation will come about.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for giving us Your Word, and for giving me the wisdom to understand your message today. I pray that I will continually be transformed as I read and meditate on your Words. May I use your daily messages to feed my spirit. I do not want to be hungry, Lord. Let your Word be food for my soul. In your mighty name I pray. AMEN.
