Scripture:
Psalm 37: 1-6
Main Verse:
Psalm 37: 4
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Observation:
What makes you happy? Some say a big fat paycheck makes them happy. Others feel happy when they are surrounded by friends. Some find happiness when they have hit the lottery, purchased their first house or car, or bought the latest gadget. I think most of us want to be happy. I have yet to encounter a person who will say "I want to be lonely all the time." But happiness is something that I believe most people yearn for, so some depend on it on external things. King David, however, found happiness, fulfillment, and peace in the Lord. He had learned that the secret to a satisfying life is to rejoice on eternal things, things that won't spoil nor perish. He had found and considered it a joy to spend time with the Lord, obeying His commands, and meditating on His Words. He had discovered that by trusting in God, he can enjoy a life of security and blessings. King David has found his happiness in the Lord's presence.
Application:
Indeed, when we spend time dwelling in the Lord's presence, we are more connected with the Lord. Whenever I open my Bible and read about Him, I feel amazed by the Lord’s greatness, compassion, love, mercy, and graciousness. When we spend time with God, we can let go of our fears. We all have our battles, we go through difficulties, but because the Lord is with me, I have peace knowing that the Lord holds everything in His Mighty hands. He is Lord! If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31) Finally, I have realized that I am indeed blessed by the Lord. When we spend time with the Lord, when we delight in the Lord’s presence, He will grant us the desires of our heart. I believe that the Lord is not simply talking about our material wishes. Rather, the Lord’s desire becomes our desire as well because we become more familiar with the Lord’s heart.
Do you want to be truly happy? Seek the Lord, and spend time with Him. Lift your life to the Lord, and you'll soon find that like King David, your life will be more meaningful.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for showing me the way toward happiness. I want to spend more time with you and be in your presence. May I always be delighted in your Word and in obeying Your commands. May I continue to learn your character, and through Your Word and the Holy Spirit's guidance, may I grow more in your likeness and nature. I pray in Your Most Holy Name. AMEN.
