Scripture:
Ephesians 6: 10-20
Main Verse:
Ephesians 6: 18
Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
Observation:
There is a spiritual battle going on, and the devil is not stopping. He will do everything he can to stop every believer from becoming the person that Jesus all wants us to be. The apostle Paul urged believers to put on the whole armor of God so we may be able to stand against the schemes of the enemy (v. 11) and to pray at all times. It is not enough that we just put on the armor; along with the armor, we need to pray. And we must pray at all times, in every situation, in the Spirit, and in all steadfastness. David was a prayerful man. He praised God at all times. He thanked God for His countless blessings in his life. He prayed to God when he sinned. He drew near to God when he needed something. He talked to God when he wanted affirmation. David knew the power that prayer has in his life. David believed that through prayer, he can find refuge and strength in the Lord.
Application:
We can never be complacent Christians because the devil always looks for an opportunity to attack us. We may be reading the Word of God and soaking ourselves in the Word, but if we don't pray, we are missing out on communication with the Lord. Or sometimes, we do pray but our prayers lack depth. Prayer must naturally occur after we have put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. Likewise, we cannot just pray and not take up the armor of God. There is a close relationship between the two.
Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for my laid-back prayer life and for not paying close attention to my communication with you. I'm sorry for my complacent attitude. Help me have a more meaningful and steadfast prayer life. Teach me to be more prayerful, and to pray in the Spirit at all times. In Jesus's name I pray. AMEN.
