Daily Devotion: Just like JESUS

Scripture:
Philippians 2: 1-11

Main Verses:
Philippians 2: 5-8
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Observation:
The Lord Jesus Christ has set an example of humility and selflessness. He is God, yet he chose to be man so that everyone may be saved. He could have saved himself from the cross, but he chose to sacrifice himself for the salvation of all. He is King, but he chose to live the life of a servant. He was born from poor parents. He gave us the greatest example of obedience. He died on the cross following the will of His Father in heaven. He gave up his life so that we can have eternal life. That is why Paul told believers that since our Lord himself has lived an unselfish life, we should all live the same kind of life that the Lord has lived.

Application:
The Lord's sacrifice on the cross is the highest act of selflessness. No one can ever replicate what Jesus has done. He willingly offered his body and blood for the atonement of our sins. He doesn't  know any of us; but he gave up everything for us. When we realize the significance of the Lord's sacrifice, pride or arrogance won't have any place in our hearts. We need to be humble not only in front of our Lord, but also in our dealings with our brothers and sisters in Christ. When we do acts of kindness, we should do it selflessly, without waiting for anything in return, just like what Jesus our Lord did when he sacrificed himself on the cross.

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for showing me the greatest example of humility and selflessness. I pray that others may see in me your character and that I may serve as a light not only among my brothers and sisters, but also among those who do not know you yet. AMEN.
