Scripture:
Jeremiah 33: 1-9
Main Verse:
Jeremiah 33:3
Call to me and I’ll answer you, and will tell you about great and hidden things that you don’t know.
Observation:
Jeremiah was one of the prophets in the Old Testament. At that time when Jerusalem was under siege, he became a prisoner and was confined in the court of the guard. Despite the circumstances he was in, the Lord has been revealing himself to him. He was in prison, yet the Lord was communicating and telling him what He would do to restore his people Israel. Jeremiah wanted to emphasize that the Lord is the Creator of all things, and that he rules above everything. In most parts of the Bible, when the Lord wants to establish a connection with someone, like his prophet or messenger, He would always tell them of his name. Jeremiah did the same in verse 2. He introduced the Lord, so that Israel will know that IT IS the LORD who has spoken to him.
Why was this important? We know that there is power in the Lord's name, and He can do great and majestic things when He speaks. In verse 3, the Lord tells us that he is an all powerful God who can do extraordinary things to those who call unto Him. He can perform great miracles, but his condition is that we should call unto Him. He will not be able to answer us if we do not call on His name.
Application:
My husband and I make it a habit to have conversations every night when he comes back to work, and our Saturdays are our bonding time as a couple. We both understand the importance of talking with each other and we never get tired of it. Would you believe that we have been married for 14 years now, yet we still discover a lot of things about ourselves?
The same goes with our relationship with the Lord. The Lord wants to speak with us and establish a connection, but He cannot do that if we do not communicate with him. He wants to reveal Himself to us, but we won't be able to see and experience God's glory and majesty if we do not spend time with Him in prayer. We form a deeper connection with our spouses when we communicate with them on a daily basis. We develop our relationship with people who are most intimate to us through constant conversation. We wouldn't be able to further know who they are or what they like or don't like if we do not take the time to talk with them. The Lord wants the same from us. He wants to develop an intimate connection with us through prayer. We should never get tired of talking with the Lord, but spend more time being with the Lord.
Prayer:
Father, I want to have a close relationship with you, so I can know you more. Reveal yourself to me; I want to be able to freely speak with you and call on your name every day. AMEN.
